Mike Szekeres (he/him) has been practicing as an occupational therapist for 24 years. He spent the first 14 years working at the Roth McFarlane Hand & Upper Limb Centre and then as a clinician at Hand Therapy Canada. He became a certified hand therapist in 2013, completed his PhD in Rehabilitation Science at Western in 2017, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Gannon University in 2019.
Mike is an assistant professor in the Advanced Health Care Practice Program at Western Univerity and is the field leader for the Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Program. He is associate editor of the Journal of Hand Therapy, associate scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute, and a member of the Bone & Joint Institute at Western. He chaired the Canadian Hand Therapy Conference for 5 years and has served as education division director for the American Society of Hand Therapists. He has over 50 publications related to upper extremity rehabilitation in peer-reviewed journals and in text books .
When not in the clinic, Mike can be found spending time with his wife and 4 daughters, and playing hockey.
